Varanasi: The government bullet pierced through his left thigh when the police opened fire, without any provocation, at the residents of Muslim-dominated Bazardiha area in Varanasi on 11th March 2009. He hasn't stood on his feet since. The government hasn't yet come to help him either. As the doctors suggested for bone grafting costing Rs one lakh to put him on his feet, the victim has appealed to all for monetary help.

Abdul Rahman s/o Abdul Badd, resident of house no. N 13/1202, Lamhi Sarai Surjan, Bazardiha, under jurisdiction of Bhelupur police station in Varanasi, is among the eight injured survivors of the police firing. Two Muslim youths were killed in the firing.

After the incident Abdul Rahman got medical treatment with contribution of the community people and even till today he is getting meal from his neighbors.
People's Vigilance Committee on Human Rights (PVCHR) provided psychological support through testimonial therapy and medical support to Abdul Rahman who was initially teated at Al-Noor Trauma Clinic and then referred to Institute of Medical Science (IMS), Banaras Hindu University (BHU) for further treatment. At IMS on 4th February 2010 he was diagnosed (IMS, BHU enrollment no. 3227 registration no: 2483/10) and doctor suggested for bone grafting. The total expense for the treatment will be Rs one lakh.

"After hearing the huge amount for the treatment, I felt very bad from inside and I lost my hope and thought now I have to spend my life on the generosity of others. If I get medical support, I'll again stand on my leg and start my own self," said, Abdul Rahman.

Dr. Lenin Raghuvanshi of PVCHR has been fighting for justice to the firing victims. Last year he held a people's tribunal on the issue and demanded the government to provide compensation to the families of the deceased and injured persons and to direct state & district authority for fair investigation by the independent agency such as state CBCID. He further added in his demand for the implementation of Section D of Prime Minister's New 15 Point Programme for Welfare of Minorities. Of late Home Minister P. Chidambaram took cognizance on his petition.

While urging the government to provide immediate medical support to Abdul Rahman to continue his further treatment and allotment of BPL ration card, Dr Raghuvanshi has appealed to all contribute for his further treatment.
